Oklahoma’s state legislature is undergoing significant changes following primary election results, with new representatives, runoffs, and term-limited departures shaping the future of the state Capitol.

Oklahoma State House Races

House Speaker Kyle Hilbert was re-elected after winning his primary. He will not have a Democratic challenger in November. Hilbert expressed pride in the Republican turnout and commitment to work alongside his colleagues to pass legislation that will keep Oklahoma on its current growth trajectory.

State Rep. Jim Shaw, who recently completed his second year in office, won his primary and will face Democrat Andy Brown in November. In Ponca City, longtime lawmaker Ken Luttrell is term-limited and will be replaced by Republican Spencer Grace, who won the primary and faces no Democratic contender.

Results of State Senate Races

The state Senate races were particularly contentious this year. In far west Oklahoma City and Yukon, state Sen. Jack Stewart is heading to a runoff against Tyler Herring, with the winner facing Democrat Meredith McGinnis.

The Shawnee area will see a new senator as Freedom Caucus leader Shane Jett is term-limited. The race is going to a runoff between Justin Freeland Wood and Abby Thompson, who narrowly made the runoff by 11 votes. Democrat Ed Bolt will compete in the general election for this district.
