Oklahoma Food Bank Receives 40,000-Pound Donation

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma received a 40,000-pound food donation as part of a nationwide effort to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. This donation will provide critical support to families facing higher food needs during the summer.

Community Comes Together

A truckload of food arrived to the sound of a band and a sea of red, white, and blue. Tom Robins of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said, ‘There’s nothing better than celebrating America by uniting, coming together with our community, with our neighbors, friends of other faiths, regardless of circumstance. Hunger doesn’t discriminate.’

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which already supports the food bank monthly, contributed to a larger nationwide effort to send 250 truckloads of food to communities across the country in honor of America’s 250th birthday. Austin Prickett, director of marketing and communications at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, emphasized the importance of donations like this during the summer.

‘It’s an important time for food donations like this. We have kids out for the summer. Parents are looking to provide more meals. They’re replacing meals that the school typically provides. So, this is an important donation. It’s going to provide around 30,000 meals to Oklahomans,’ Prickett said.

Nearly 150 volunteers joined the effort. The donated food will be distributed to partner agencies, allowing Oklahomans to access it and bring nutritious meals home to their families.
