The Casper City Council has voted to maintain the city’s property tax rate at 8 mills for the coming fiscal year. This decision was made after approving the fiscal year 2027 budget at its Tuesday meeting.
Fiscal Year 2027 Budget
The councilors voted unanimously to request Natrona County to continue collecting the tax on behalf of the city at its historical level, with Financial Services Director Jill Johnson saying the property tax levy is expected to generate approximately $4.9 million in revenue for fiscal year 2027.
The estimated revenue is slightly up from the $3.8 million that is projected for the entirety of fiscal year 2026. Johnson credited the estimated increase to a combination of anticipated new construction and general growth in property values.
The fiscal year 2027 budget also accounts for tax relief measures approved by the state legislature in 2025. These measures include a 50% credit for long-time homeowners and 25% value reductions.
