Arizona Soccer Hires Assistant Coach

Arizona soccer is making changes as the 2026 season approaches. Head coach Becca Moros announced the hiring of assistant coach Steve Voltz on Tuesday.

Experience and Background

Voltz is the second assistant coach hired this spring, joining Nils Roth. He comes to Tucson after spending five seasons as the head coach at Louisiana Tech, where he amassed a 29-33-11 record. Voltz coached the team to back-to-back Conference USA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023.

Prior to his time at LA Tech, Voltz spent eight years at Division III Millsaps College, including six as the head coach of the men’s team. He led that group to the first NCAA tournament appearance in program history.

“Steve is a veteran coach with experience on the men’s and women’s sides, experience as both a head coach and an assistant coach, and experience at various levels of the game,” Moros said in the program’s press release. “He is good at building relationships and cares about the community and the people in it. His connections domestically and internationally will be a benefit to our recruiting efforts as we look to grow our program into the future.”

Team Changes

Arizona has had a number of comings and goings this spring. In addition to the two new coaches, five transfers were brought in to replace five players who transferred out. Arizona also added former North Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast midfielder Eden Bretzer for a brief period this spring before she transferred again to Michigan State in early May.

The women’s soccer season opens on Aug. 12, but exhibitions are typically held the week before. Arizona does not yet have its schedule posted. Moros will be leading the team for the sixth season after taking over in June of 2021. The Wildcats are trying to make their first NCAA Tournament since 2019.
