Democrat Dr. Richard Pan is running for Congress in California’s Congressional District 6, a seat currently held by incumbent Kevin Kiley. Pan, a former state senator and small business owner, has devoted his life to protecting the life and safety of the region’s families as a doctor. He is now seeking to improve lives and make government work for people.
Challenging Kiley’s Record
At a press conference, Pan criticized Kiley’s record, stating that as a career politician, Kiley has taken extreme positions on immigration, voting rights, public health, and has earned Trump’s endorsement as his MAGA champion. Pan also pointed out that Kiley voted with President Donald Trump 90% of the time, including backing Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Kiley, who was a Republican until earlier this year, is now an independent who caucuses with Republicans. Pan argued that Kiley’s support for Trump’s extremist Project 2025 agenda has led to struggles for families in the 6th District, including increasing costs of food, gas above $6 a gallon, and draconian cuts to their healthcare.
Race for the Seat
With 24 days remaining in the vote count, Kiley is leading the race with 46,942 votes or 24.3% of the vote. Pan has 44,839 or 23.2%. There are five other candidates in the race, including four Democrats who collectively have 32.5% of the vote as of Tuesday. Republican candidate Michael Stansfield has 20.1%.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added the District 6 race to its Red to Blue program, considering it one of the top chances to flip a House seat and take back the majority. Pan stated that he is running to defeat Kiley and deliver for the families of this district.
