Montgomery Affordable Housing

The Montgomery Housing Authority has opened new affordable housing apartments in the city of Montgomery. The Columbus Square Phase III apartments include around 60 low-income tax credit units and took about 18 months to complete.

Affordable Housing Shortage

Leaders say the city is dealing with a major shortage of affordable housing units. They hope this new development creates a small dent in a huge problem the city is facing. “That’s what we are trying to do here is transform Montgomery so that people will know that it’s a good safe place to live, that you’ll be able to have affordable housing, and you’ll be able to go to work,” says John Knight, the Chairman of the Montgomery Housing Board.

“The key to this is it impacts economic stability for the city and for the county. We can’t attract industry, we can’t attract business. We can’t grow our community unless our workforce has suitable housing to live in,” says Monica Whiting, the CEO of the Montgomery Housing Authority.
