World Cup Fans Head to Oak Park Mall

Johnson County is preparing for a large influx of World Cup fans as Argentina takes on Algeria at Kansas City Stadium. The first match of the tournament in Kansas City will bring tens of thousands of ticket-holding fans to the area, with many using Oak Park Mall as a shuttle stop.

Stadium Direct Shuttles

Stadium Direct shuttles, which are for match ticket holders only, will begin leaving for the match at 5 p.m. from Oak Park Mall. Riders must register beforehand and can park at the mall, including a special reserve lot in front of Barnes & Noble.

Bo McCall, special projects manager in the county manager’s office, advises drivers in the area of 95th and Quivira near the mall to expect an increase in traffic, particularly between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. He suggests taking an alternate route for those not attending the match or using the shuttle.

McCall expressed excitement about welcoming visitors to the region and stated that years of planning have gone into preparing for this event. The Stadium Direct shuttles are part of a regional transit network designed to transport fans directly to Arrowhead Stadium.
