The Bighorn National Forest has announced the closure of the Munitions and Oblivion climbing walls in the Valhalla area of the Ten Sleep Canyon. The closure, which will last until August 15, is intended to protect nesting raptors in the area.
Under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, land managers are required to prevent actions that could disturb nesting birds. The closure is in place to ensure the safety of both climbers and the birds, as nesting raptors can be aggressive when defending their nests.
Although the Munitions and Oblivion climbing walls are closed, there are still plenty of other options available for climbers in the area. The Bighorn National Forest offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, camping, and fishing, and climbers can explore other areas of the forest for alternative routes.
