The Springfield Cardinals head into the final week of the Texas League’s first half with a 27-35 record, fourth in the North Division, following Sunday’s 5-4, 10-inning loss to Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate Amarillo.
One of the highlights of the 2026 Cardinals has been the play of outfielder Travis Honeyman, a 23-year-old third-round draft choice from Boston College. Honeyman leads the team with 22 stolen bases in 24 attempts as Springfield has swiped 124 bags, tied with Northwest Arkansas and eight behind league-leading Corpus Christi.
Player Performance
Honeyman is hitting .265 batting with five home runs and 19 RBIs. Speed has always been a big part of his game, and his power numbers are up after hitting three home runs all of last season.
Good health has been a major factor. Honeyman battled hamstring issues in 2025, limiting him to 82 games at High-A Peoria, where he hit .285 with 10 steals.
Springfield manager Patrick Anderson said he’s known Honeyman, a native of Massapequa, New York, since he was a middle schooler. Anderson had a stint coaching at Hofstra University and recruited Honeyman’s brother, Bobby.
Upcoming Schedule
The Cardinals’ upcoming schedule includes games against Wichita, Northwest Arkansas, and Arkansas.
