Chicago-born rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is returning to his hometown for two performances at Soldier Field on September 3 and 4. The 24-time Grammy winner is headed to the home of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Fire Football Club as part of the tour for his album ‘Bully,’ which was released in March.
Ye’s Controversial Past
Ye has generated numerous controversies in recent years by making deeply antisemitic and bigoted remarks. He took out a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal in January to apologize for past comments ahead of his album release and comeback tour.
Previous performances on the tour, like Ye’s April appearance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, saw big stars as guest performers, including Lauryn Hill and Travis Scott. The Chicago-born rapper has also surprised fans with performances from his hit album, ‘Graduation.’ Ye’s last Chicago performance followed his 2021 release of ‘Donda,’ a tribute to his mother, and included a replica of the rapper’s childhood home in South Shore.
Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement about the rapper’s homecoming for official tour dates. ‘Yeezy one week, Bears home opener the next! Time to book my flight back home!’ one person wrote on Instagram. But others expressed concern that fans have seemingly moved past Ye’s antisemitic remarks.
