Teen DJ Turns Passion into Business

Madison Coleman, a 17-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana, has turned her passion for music into a successful business. Known professionally as DJ Maddie Mad, Coleman is one of Shreveport’s youngest female professional DJs, performing at community events, private functions, and school activities across the city.

A Business Born from a Classroom Assignment

The idea for her business began during her ninth-grade year at Captain Shreve High School, when students were assigned to create a business plan as part of an end-of-year project. Coleman’s business plan was to start a DJ business, and with the help of her parents, she was able to turn her idea into a reality.

Coleman’s mother, Shondale Coleman, serves as her ‘momager,’ while her father, Nathaniel Coleman Jr., handles technical support. ‘A lot of people think it’s me, but it’s clearly not,’ Nathaniel Coleman Jr. said. ‘All I know how to do is set it up. The music selection and everything else is all her.’

Coleman has become a recognizable figure in her community, and her growing reputation has even made her a sought-after DJ for local events. She has performed at numerous events throughout the Shreveport area, including as the official DJ for Captain Shreve’s basketball team.

A Balancing Act

As a rising senior, Coleman balances her business with school activities. She serves as captain of the Captain Shreve band and plays both the baritone and euphonium. Despite her busy schedule, Coleman is determined to make her business a success and is already thinking about her future plans.

Coleman is still deciding what comes next after high school, but she is certain that music will remain a part of her future. With her passion and dedication, it’s clear that DJ Maddie Mad is here to stay.
