Tyler Adams, a native New Yorker and US Men’s National Team midfielder, is gearing up to play in the biggest game of his life against Paraguay in the World Cup. However, his attention is also on the New York Knicks, who recently made a surprising comeback in the NBA Finals.
Adams’ Love for the Knicks
Adams, who was born in Poughkeepsie and raised in Wappinger Falls, has been a die-hard Knicks fan his whole life. He even celebrated their recent win with his teammates, jumping onto a sofa and over pillows in their hotel room.
When asked about the Knicks, Adams said, ‘I mean, listen, I have group chats with me and my boys from back home growing up, and we’ve always been Knicks fans. We’ve never been this close, so it’s exciting. I blacked out.’ Adams also playfully called out his teammate Brenden Aaronson, a Sixers fan, as a ‘hater’.
Parallels Between the USMNT and the Knicks
Despite the World Cup being the biggest sporting event in the world, the US team’s mission and the Knicks’ run have some parallels. Both teams have been considered underdogs, with the Knicks being betting underdogs in the NBA Finals and the US team having 60-1 odds to win the World Cup.
Adams drew inspiration from the Knicks’ improbable run, saying, ‘I mean it’s pretty captivating. Them being kind of the underdog coming out of the East and doing something special, as they’re doing right now? I mean, I take inspiration from that. But hey, I’m a New York Knicks fan.’
