Cincinnati’s Mt. Adams neighborhood was hit by a string of car break-ins overnight, with over 50 vehicles targeted. The incidents occurred between 1 and 2 a.m. on seven different streets, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.
Investigation Underway
Police believe masked teenagers were responsible for the break-ins, which were caught on security cameras at multiple houses. The suspects were seen smashing windows and attempting to steal items from the vehicles. However, it is reported that they only stole from a few of the targeted cars.
One resident, Dae’Cion Kaey, described the scene as ‘an operation’ and stated that ‘the whole area just got hit.’ Another resident, Abi Garces, found out about the break-in when she discovered her car’s window had been smashed. ‘I’m upset because now I have a whole mess to deal with,’ she said.
The Cincinnati Police Department received the first 9-1-1 call at 1:52 a.m. and arrived at the scene 43 minutes later. They were delayed by a call downtown for a suicidal person. A drone was deployed to capture footage of the suspects’ getaway car, a white SUV.
Community Reaction
Residents are frustrated and concerned about the incident. Kaey, who has had his car windows smashed twice this year, expressed his disappointment and frustration. ‘I work too hard, man. You know, I don’t really see the point of it sometimes,’ he said.
The police are reviewing the security footage and have not made any arrests yet. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
