James Byrd Runs for US Senate

CASPER, Wyo. — As the Aug. 18 primary election approaches, candidate James Byrd has shared his vision for Wyoming in a recent questionnaire.

Challenges Facing Wyomingites

Byrd identified the soaring costs of living, working, and accessing basic necessities as the most pressing challenges facing Wyomingites. Hardworking families feel the squeeze of inflation on everything from groceries to utilities. Compounding this financial strain is a critical shortage of accessible, quality rural health care and essential mental health support services.

Additionally, Wyoming’s economic stability is under pressure due to rapid transitions in the energy sector, threatening high-paying jobs. Federal proposals to sell off public lands also jeopardize the state’s outdoor heritage and local economies.

Addressing Challenges

If elected, Byrd plans to champion economic resilience, transparency, and practical solutions over political division. He will support federal nutrition programs and localized initiatives to ensure no child in Wyoming goes hungry. Byrd will work across the aisle to strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure and protect essential programs like Medicaid.

Byrd also intends to act as a fierce advocate for Wyoming’s energy independence, supporting traditional energy workers while driving sustainable innovations that create new, high-paying jobs. He will protect public lands from being sold off, adhering to a “multiple-use and sustained-yield” approach that balances responsible development with conservation and open public access.

Qualifications

Byrd is a fifth-generation Wyomingite with a lifetime of deep roots and frontline experience in public service and the private sector. He served a decade in the Wyoming House of Representatives and has experience in the oil industry and corporate consulting.
