El Paso Congresswoman Veronica Escobar honored two local soccer players, Ricardo Pepi and Alejandro Zendejas, in the US House for their selection to the U.S. Men’s National Team for the 2026 World Cup.

Local Athletes on the World Stage

Pepi, who grew up in San Elizario, and Zendejas, born in Ciudad Juarez and raised in El Paso, will represent the city on soccer’s biggest stage. Rep. Escobar made the remarks to the Congressional Record, expressing pride in the athletes and their families.

Pepi played for FC Dallas and moved abroad to Europe, joining Eredivisie club PSV. He won MLS Player of the Year 2021 before moving overseas. Zendejas plays for Liga MX side Club América and is considered a staple in his teams.
