Arizona Women’s Tennis Sees Improvement Under Coach Ryan Stotland

The Arizona women’s tennis team has made significant strides under the leadership of coach Ryan Stotland. Since taking over in 2018, Stotland has led the team to winning seasons from 2019 to the present, including a 65% win rate over the past two seasons.

Recent Success

This past spring, the team overcame a tough start to win their last nine regular season matches, advancing to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament before losing to Notre Dame in the opening round of the NCAAs. The team’s success was fueled by a young core, including Martyna Ostrzygalo, Josie Usereau, and Ciara Moore, who played on the top three singles courts.

Ostrzygalo was named All-Big 12 First Team, while Usereau was named All-Big 12 Second Team and Moore was named All-Big 12 Freshman Team. The trio provides a solid foundation for the team to build on in the future.

Big 12 Performance

Arizona showed improvement in the Big 12, posting a 10-3 league mark in 2026 compared to an 8-5 record last season. The team beat Big 12 champion UCF in the regular season before falling to the Knights in the conference tournament. Arizona went 6-0 at home in league play, with 20 overall wins tied with TCU for most in the Big 12.

However, the team still struggles against rival ASU, who has beaten Arizona in nine of the last 10 matches. The team will look to overcome this hurdle and achieve postseason success, having lost in the first round of the NCAAs in three straight years.
