Alvin and Pearland ISDs to Discuss FY 2026-27 Budget Plans

Alvin and Pearland Independent School Districts are set to discuss their budget plans for the fiscal year 2026-27. Both districts will conduct public hearings to invite community feedback on the proposed budgets and tax rates before any decisions are made.

Alvin ISD Budget Overview

Alvin ISD officials anticipate that the operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year will remain steady at approximately $391.4 million, unchanged from the previous year. This stability is attributed to slower-than-expected student enrollment, according to Daniel Combs, the district’s Chief Financial Officer. The revenue for maintenance and operations, which supports daily school functions, primarily depends on student enrollment and attendance-weighted funding rather than property values, limiting revenue growth under current conditions.

Pearland ISD Budget Overview

Pearland ISD projects around $231 million in revenue with nearly $229 million in expenses for the fiscal year 2026-27. Employee payroll remains the district’s largest expense, accounting for about $191.02 million, or 83% of the projected revenue.

Tax Rates and Upcoming Meetings

Alvin ISD is proposing a preliminary tax rate of $1.1403 per $100 valuation of a home, combining $0.74550 for maintenance and operations and $0.39480 for interest and sinking, which covers bond debt. Pearland ISD’s projected tax rate remains unchanged from the previous year at $1.135 per $100 valuation, with $0.78690 allocated for maintenance and operations and $0.34810 for interest and sinking.

Alvin ISD trustees will meet at 6 p.m. at the district’s administration building located at 301 E. House St., Alvin. Pearland ISD trustees will convene at 5 p.m. at the Virgil Gant Education Support Center, located at 1928 N. Main St., Pearland.
