Nelly Korda Clinches U.S. Women’s Open Title with Dramatic Final Putt

Nelly Korda triumphed at the 81st U.S. Women’s Open on Sunday, claiming her second consecutive major title with a nail-biting finish. Her final 2 1/2-foot par putt on the 18th hole at the historic Riviera golf course narrowly avoided disaster, circling the cup before dropping in to secure a one-shot victory over Charley Hull and Gaby Lopez.

Korda’s Remarkable Season

This victory adds to Korda’s impressive season, marking her fourth career major win. The 27-year-old American golfer finished the tournament at 8-under 276, showcasing her dominance in the sport. Her steady performance in the final round, with a 2-under 69, was highlighted by a critical 9-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole that broke a four-way tie for the lead.

Despite a challenging start to the tournament with an opening-round 73, Korda rebounded with back-to-back 67s, sharing the lead into the final round. Her ability to maintain composure under pressure was evident as she avoided any bogeys on the back nine, a feat that her closest competitors could not match.

Competition and Challenges

Charley Hull and Gaby Lopez both delivered strong performances, narrowly missing their first major victories. Hull, who began the day three shots behind, surged into the lead before the wind off the Pacific Ocean introduced a challenging finish. Despite her aggressive play, Hull’s bogey on the 14th hole allowed Korda to maintain her lead.

Lopez, along with three-time major champion In Gee Chun, remained in contention until the final holes. Chun finished two shots back at 6-under 278, while third-round co-leader Sei Young Kim ended at 279 after a 1-over 72.

Korda’s victory at the U.S. Women’s Open follows her win at The Chevron Championship in April, marking a spectacular season after a winless 2025. Her focus on positivity and steadiness has clearly paid off, as she continues to solidify her status as a leading figure in women’s golf.
