Texas DPS Urges Use of iWatchTexas for World Cup Safety

In anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging residents to download and utilize the iWatchTexas program. This initiative is designed to allow the public to report suspicious activities, thereby enhancing safety during the World Cup events hosted in Texas.

Community Involvement in Safety

The iWatchTexas program provides a platform for individuals to anonymously report any suspicious behavior or threats that could indicate criminal, terroristic, or school safety-related activities. With millions of visitors expected in Texas for the World Cup, DPS emphasizes that safety is a shared responsibility among all residents and visitors.

DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin stated, “Safety and security will be our top priority as Texas hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. iWatchTexas will play a vital role in that, by giving people a simple and effective way to report any type of suspicious behavior and helping law enforcement take quick action to stop those potential threats before anything happens. Please, if you see something suspicious, say something.”

How to Report

The public can report behaviors via the iWatchTexas mobile app, online at www.iwatchtx.org, or by calling 1-844-643-2251. Reports are confidential, and providing contact information is optional but can facilitate follow-up questions. Each report is reviewed by law enforcement analysts to ensure prompt action.

Examples of reportable behaviors include unusual activities that might be related to crime preparation, potential terrorist attacks, or threats to school safety. The DPS encourages everyone to report when in doubt, as these observations can be crucial in preventing incidents.

The iWatchTexas app is available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Texans are encouraged to download the app and familiarize themselves with its features before the World Cup events begin.

It is important to note that the iWatchTexas program is not intended for emergency situations, which should be reported directly to 911.
