Fort Worth Voters Approve $10.8M for Public Art in New Bond Package

Fort Worth is set to see a significant investment in public art, as voters approved nearly $10.8 million for projects as part of an $845 million bond package. The Fort Worth Art Commission, which oversees the city’s public art master plan, discussed these projects during a retreat on May 16.

Art Projects Across the City

The bond package includes several propositions with designated public art funding. Proposition A, focusing on streets and mobility infrastructure, will be discussed in future meetings. Proposition B, aimed at parks and recreation improvements, has allocated approximately $3.14 million for public art. Libraries, under Proposition C, will see projects at the Fort Worth History Center, Diamond Hill/Jarvis Library, and the Southwest Regional Library, with an estimated $286,000 for art initiatives.

Proposition E targets the city’s Emergency Operations Center, which is undergoing renovations, and includes potential projects for a new parking garage and Fire Stations #40 and #46, with $1.25 million earmarked for public art. Additionally, Proposition F allocates $1,174,000 for art at the animal control center.

Local Artists and Community Engagement

Anne Allen, the public art program manager for Arts Fort Worth, emphasized the importance of recruiting local artists for these projects. The city council-appointed art commission plays a crucial role in implementing the public art master plan, ensuring that the projects reflect the community’s values and aesthetics.

These initiatives highlight Fort Worth’s commitment to enhancing public spaces through art, providing opportunities for local artists, and engaging the community in the city’s cultural development.
