Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Tackle Squatter Issues in New Docuseries

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, known for their roles as hosts of ‘Live With Kelly and Mark,’ have taken on a new project as executive producers of the Hulu docuseries ‘Squatters: Get the F*** Out of My House.’ The series, which premiered on June 4, delves into the troubling issue of squatters across the United States, showcasing the challenges homeowners face when dealing with unwanted occupants.

Highlighting Homeowner Struggles

The six-part series documents various stories where squatters have become a significant problem for property owners. Ripa expressed her frustration in an interview, stating, “I’m very much, if something is unjust, it enrages me. I was shaking through half of these stories, just like shaking from rage.” Consuelos echoed her sentiments, noting the difficulty and legal complexities involved in removing squatters.

One of the cases featured in the series involved a homeowner who was arrested for attempting to enter her own property. Ripa commented, “She did all the right things, and she got arrested.” This highlights the legal challenges homeowners face, as squatters often exploit loopholes to remain in properties unlawfully.

Impact on Property and Community

Ripa and Consuelos emphasize the destructive nature of squatters, who not only occupy homes but also cause significant damage. Ripa described how squatters profit from subleasing properties and destroy property values by removing fixtures and appliances. Consuelos added, “I feel the worst for them because it wasn’t like they were trying to lease out the house. They’re selling the house. And next thing you know, the locks are changed on their house.”

The couple hopes the series will raise awareness about the issue and encourage viewers to take precautions when renting or leasing properties. Ripa advised, “If you are looking to rent a place, if you’re looking to get a roommate in your house, you want to see this docuseries because it is very important to get everything upfront, in writing.”

As the series progresses, Ripa and Consuelos plan to explore more stories and shed light on the varying squatter issues from state to state and community to community. The docuseries aims to leave viewers both informed and astonished by the audacity of these situations.
