ODESSA, Texas – Residents living near West County Road have voiced growing alarm after a single property experienced three separate fires this year. The incidents, which occurred at the beginning of the year, mid‑year and most recently in August, have left neighbors worried that another spark could ignite one of the many older homes in the area.
Neighbors describe a pattern of unexplained blazes
One local resident, who spoke with First Alert 7 by phone, recounted the timeline of the fires. “The first time it was like at the beginning of the year, the middle of the year, now this time, it’s already like three times already,” the neighbor said. “I don’t know if somebody’s doing it on purpose or I don’t know what’s going on, you know what I mean. But something’s happening.”
The homeowner’s repeated misfortunes have sparked speculation among the community. While no official cause has been released, the neighbor emphasized that the concern extends beyond a simple scare. “Yea everybody’s worried, trust me, everybody’s worried now cause uh they’re all pretty much old houses, you know what I mean, so if a spark show up in a house, it will burn to the ground,” they added.
Fire department response and pending investigation
First Alert 7 has reached out to the Odessa Fire Department for comment and is awaiting a response. Firefighters were seen on video responding to the most recent blaze in August, but details about the investigation remain limited.
Local officials have not yet issued a formal statement, but the pattern of fires has prompted calls for increased vigilance. Residents are being urged to clear brush, maintain fire‑safe distances between structures, and report any suspicious activity promptly.
Community steps to protect homes
In neighborhoods with older housing stock, fire safety measures become especially critical. The Odessa Fire Department recommends the following actions for homeowners:
- Install and regularly test smoke detectors on every level of the home.
- Keep fire extinguishers readily accessible, especially in kitchens and garages.
- Maintain clear space around the exterior of the house, removing dry vegetation and debris.
- Ensure electrical wiring is up to code and have a qualified electrician inspect older circuits.
- Report any unusual smells, sparks, or signs of arson to authorities immediately.
Community leaders hope that heightened awareness and proactive steps will deter further incidents and protect the safety of families living in the area.
Looking ahead
As the investigation proceeds, residents remain hopeful that the fire department will determine the cause and take appropriate action. In the meantime, the Odessa community continues to rally around one another, emphasizing the importance of vigilance, preparedness, and mutual support during uncertain times.
