Miami Valley gas prices dip to $3.89 per gallon as refiners wrap up maintenance

Drivers in the Miami Valley can breathe a little easier this week. According to data from GasBuddy, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped to $3.89, roughly 30 cents lower than the price recorded just seven days earlier.

Refinery maintenance eases pressure on supply

Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy, told News Center 7’s Taylor Robertson that the primary reason for the decline is the winding down of scheduled maintenance at several Ohio refineries, including the Cenovus plant. “Refinery issues are behind us and the maintenance season is wrapping up,” De Haan said. With those units coming back online, the market is seeing a modest but meaningful increase in fuel supply, which translates into lower pump prices for local motorists.

National foreign‑policy optimism adds a boost

De Haan also highlighted a broader factor: renewed confidence in how the United States will handle tensions with Iran. He noted that President Trump, who pledged after the recent midterm elections to resolve the situation, has signaled a firm diplomatic approach that is calming oil markets. “As Americans have made clear, the economy is a top issue, and a steady hand on the international stage helps keep gasoline affordable,” De Haan explained.

Potential for further savings

Looking ahead, De Haan cautioned that while another 20‑30 cent drop could be possible by next week, the market remains vulnerable to any sudden escalation between the United States and Iran. “If something develops tomorrow, it could offset the projected relief,” he said, but he remains optimistic that the current trajectory will hold for at least a week or two.

What this means for families

For Ohio families who rely on their vehicles for work, school runs, and church activities, even a modest reduction in fuel costs can free up dollars for other household needs. Lower gasoline prices support the traditional family’s budget, allowing parents to allocate more resources toward groceries, education, and faith‑based community involvement.

Local perspective

Local business owners and commuters have already noted the change at the pump. “We’ve seen a noticeable dip, which is a welcome relief for anyone driving to work or taking kids to Sunday school,” said a Dayton resident who asked to remain anonymous.

While the price decline is not guaranteed to continue indefinitely, the combination of returning refinery capacity and a steady U.S. foreign‑policy stance under President Trump provides a solid foundation for continued affordability in the Miami Valley.
