Gina Hinojosa Campaigns in Plano, Criticizes Abbott’s Governance

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa made a significant campaign stop in Plano, joining James Talarico on his ‘The People vs. Ken Paxton Tour.’ The event drew over 4,000 attendees, marking the largest turnout for Talarico’s rallies to date.

Focus on Public Schools

Hinojosa, who has served in the Texas House since 2016, emphasized her commitment to public education. Her political journey began as a concerned mother fighting to keep her son’s school open. ‘I was compelled to run for the school board to save our neighborhood schools,’ she told the crowd. Her advocacy for public schools continues to be a central theme of her campaign.

Hinojosa criticized the current state of public education under Gov. Greg Abbott, highlighting issues such as underfunded school districts and the challenges faced by Texas families. She argued that strong public schools are essential for achieving the American Dream, a concept she feels is currently out of reach for many Texans.

Criticism of Abbott’s Record

Throughout her speech, Hinojosa did not shy away from criticizing Gov. Abbott, labeling him as the most corrupt governor in Texas history. She pointed to Texas’s leading position in bankruptcies, utility shutoffs, and uninsured residents as evidence of his failed policies. Additionally, she noted that over 200 school districts lack the funds to operate five days a week, and warned of the potential water crisis in Corpus Christi.

Hinojosa accused Abbott of imposing what she called the ‘Greg Abbott corruption tax,’ which she claims burdens the middle class while providing tax breaks to the wealthy. ‘Nobody here is asking for handouts,’ she stated, ‘We are asking for what we have already worked for.’

Her campaign message is clear: to take back power from what she describes as a corrupt administration and to restore the promise of Texas for all its residents. Hinojosa will face Abbott in the upcoming election on November 3.
