St. Francis House, a longtime provider of shelter and re‑entry services in Sioux Falls, announced the launch of its “Healing Home” campaign on November 4. The nonprofit is seeking $1.5 million from local businesses and Chamber of Commerce members to fund a major campus expansion.
Campaign leadership and goals
Ben Dold, president and chief operating officer of Midco, and Mark Millage, director of community relations at Furniture Mart USA, are co‑chairs of the effort. Together with more than 60 volunteers, they will solicit donations through the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce Community Appeals program. The $1.5 million goal is a portion of a broader $10 million capital campaign needed to complete the project.
Planned additions
The expansion will add 38 efficiency units designed for individuals moving out of homelessness. It will also create dedicated space for partner agencies to provide on‑site services, ranging from job‑training to counseling. A new “Donation Depot” will give residents an easy way to contribute goods to St. Francis House and its partner nonprofits.
Community impact
“The Healing Home Campus is built around responsible stewardship,” said campaign co‑chair Ben Dold. “We are bringing partner agencies together, allowing each organization to contribute its expertise while sharing programming, resources, and in‑kind donations.”
Kari Benz, director of human services for Minnehaha and Lincoln counties, praised the organization’s role, noting that St. Francis House provides “unmatched” services and takes a proactive approach to assisting those impacted by the criminal justice system.
One former resident shared, “They helped me get myself back on my feet and financially stable by helping me find a job. Staff help keep me from the streets and keep me sober. Without this place, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Measuring success
Mark Millage added, “The greatest reward will not be the buildings we construct. It will be seeing people heal, families reconnect, individuals return to the workforce, and people who once experienced homelessness or incarceration become stable and contributing members of our community.”
The campaign kickoff event ran from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, at the Mosaic in Sioux Falls. Those interested in supporting the effort can learn more or donate at www.stfrancishouse.com.
