At its Oct. 9 meeting, the Northlake Town Council voted to award a $35,000 Pioneer Grant to Chef Lin’s Asian Kitchen, a new family‑owned Asian cuisine restaurant slated to open in late December. The grant, part of the town’s Pioneer Grant program, is designed to encourage new businesses to set up shop in Northlake and contribute to local economic growth.
Council backs small‑business growth
Council member Alex Holmes praised the decision, saying, “We’re in growth mode and I’m proud when a small business owner chooses to come here.” Council member Josh Pezzuto added, “There is a big benefit to having locally‑owned small businesses coming, and that’s where the spirit of this is. It’s good to have unique businesses and dining places in our town, and Pioneer Grants are great to attract that.”
Chef Lin’s plans and community focus
Manager Chen Lin explained that the grant will give the restaurant flexibility for staffing, employee training and marketing as it prepares to open on Robson Ranch Road, near the future H‑E‑B site. Head chef Zhiyong Lin brings more than 15 years of restaurant experience, and the menu will feature a mix of traditional and fusion Asian dishes, including ramen, udon, sushi, sashimi, poke bowls, fried rice, hibachi‑style entrees, and specialty items such as Cola‑Braised Chicken Wings and Pineapple Fried Rice.
The 3,000‑square‑foot space will seat about 72 guests and will offer dine‑in, takeout and online ordering. The restaurant plans to operate seven days a week, serving Northlake, Robson Ranch, Argyle and surrounding communities.
Commitment to the community
Council member Alex Holmes asked the owners to become an active part of the community, noting, “This is our taxpayers investing in the success of your business. I ask you to really plug into the community, stay connected and make sure the community knows you’re there so you can be a long‑term part of this community.”
Chef Lin’s also intends to offer discounts to seniors (65+), military personnel and first responders, a gesture that aligns with the town’s emphasis on supporting those who serve the community.
Economic impact
The grant reflects Northlake’s broader strategy to attract diverse dining options and create jobs. By supporting a locally‑owned restaurant, the town hopes to boost tax revenues, increase foot traffic for nearby businesses, and provide residents with a high‑quality, convenient dining choice.
With the Pioneer Grant secured, Chef Lin’s Asian Kitchen moves closer to opening its doors, promising to enrich Northlake’s culinary landscape while reinforcing the town’s commitment to small‑business development and community partnership.
