Residents of Pinellas County, Florida, should brace for a challenging week on the roads as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announces a series of lane closures from June 7 through June 13. These closures are set to impact major thoroughfares, including Interstate 275 and US 19, with some areas experiencing round-the-clock disruptions.
Key Road Closures and Timings
Nightly commuters on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge should prepare for delays due to night lane closures on I-275. These closures will occur nightly from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., starting Sunday, June 7, and continuing through Saturday, June 13.
US 19 will see widespread construction affecting multiple sections. Commuters traveling between Tampa Road and Tarpon Avenue will face daytime lane closures from Monday, June 8, through Friday, June 12, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additionally, night crews will manage closures on two other sections: from Main Street (SR 580) to Curlew Road (SR 586) and from Whitney Road to Drew Street, with closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
Alternate US 19 will also experience traffic slowdowns due to flagging operations. From Wilson Street to Tradewinds Drive, night lane closures and flagging will occur Monday through Friday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Another night zone from Meres Boulevard to Tampa Road will operate Sunday through Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Daytime travelers between E Curlew Place and St. Andrews Drive will encounter flagging operations and lane closures from Monday, June 8, through Saturday, June 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Long-Term Closures
Several high-traffic corridors will transition to permanent, 24-hour restrictions lasting for months. Eastbound Gulf to Bay Boulevard (SR 60) from S. Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard will have lanes closed 24 hours a day throughout the summer of 2026. Similarly, eastbound Curlew Road (SR 586) from McMullen Booth Road to Tampa Road will maintain 24-hour lane closures extending through late 2026. The 62nd Avenue S Bridge over Maximo Channel will also remain closed 24 hours a day through the summer, with a temporary traffic signal installed to manage two-way traffic over the remaining bridge space.
Other affected areas include 4th Street North (SR 687) and Ulmerton Road (SR 688). The section of 4th Street North from 106th Avenue to just north of 119th Avenue will close lanes at night from Sunday through Thursday, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The segment from Gandy Boulevard to I-275 will see daytime closures from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ulmerton Road drivers will face daytime lane closures between 49th Street N and Egret Boulevard, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Local officials advise motorists to plan alternative routes or allocate extra travel time to accommodate these disruptions.
