The Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is set to host its annual Fun Fest this Saturday at Washington Park. This event promises a day filled with games, food, music, and fun for the entire family, all while supporting a meaningful cause.
Empowering the Visually Impaired
Carol Lahke, the manager of donor relations for the association, shared insights about the event, emphasizing its dual purpose: to provide enjoyment and to educate the community about the challenges faced by individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The association, which has been a part of Cincinnati since 1911, aims to empower these individuals to live independently through various services such as job placement, orientation, mobility training, and assistive technology.
Last year, the organization assisted 4,600 people in the community, helping them navigate life with visual impairments. Lahke highlighted the importance of dispelling misconceptions, noting that many visually impaired individuals lead full, independent lives.
Family-Friendly Activities
Fun Fest will feature a range of immersive experiences designed to engage both sighted and visually impaired participants. Activities include blindfolded cornhole, tactile guessing games, and music-driven dance sessions. The event aims to foster a sense of community and understanding among attendees.
Running from 12 to 3 PM, the festival is free and open to the public. Attendees can enjoy food trucks, live music, and raffles, all while supporting the association’s mission to enhance the lives of the blind and visually impaired in Cincinnati.
