Election Day is fast approaching, and voters in Kentucky and Indiana need to know the deadlines, where to cast their ballots and which contests will decide the future of their communities.
Important Dates and Polling Hours
Both states hold elections on Nov. 3. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. If you are still in line when the clock strikes 6 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
Early voting is available with no excuse required. Check your county’s election website for specific early‑voting days and locations.
Finding Your Polling Place
Visit the state election portal and select your county to see the exact address of your polling location. Jefferson County, Kentucky, will add a drive‑through voting site at the Fairgrounds; details are pending.
Voter ID Requirements
Both Kentucky and Indiana require a valid photo ID to vote. If you do not have one, you can obtain a free Voter ID card at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) office.
What’s on the Ballot?
Kentucky voters will decide who succeeds longtime Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. The race pits Republican Rep. Andy Barr against Democrat former State Rep. Charles Booker.
In the U.S. House, Kentucky’s 4th District will see former Rep. Thomas Massie’s seat contested. Primary winner Ed Gallrein (R) will face Democrat Melissa Strange.
Voters will also consider a constitutional amendment that would limit the governor’s authority over pardons and sentence commutations.
Indiana voters will choose a new secretary of state, state comptroller and state treasurer. Two constitutional questions appear on the ballot: one concerning bail procedures and another addressing judicial residency requirements.
In Louisville, the mayoral race is nonpartisan, featuring incumbent Mayor Craig Greenberg and challenger Shameka Parrish‑Wright, both Democrats. Metro Council seats are also up for election.
Jefferson County (KY) and Clark County (IN) will each have a sheriff on the ballot, and the Jefferson County Public Schools board is shrinking from seven to five seats, with all positions contested.
