Alderman Anthony Napolitano Secures Fourth Term Unopposed in Chicago’s 41st Ward

Edison Park — Alderman Anthony Napolitano, the incumbent representative for Chicago’s 41st Ward, has officially entered the race for a fourth term and is the sole candidate on the ballot for the 2027 municipal elections. The filing deadline passed Monday, and the Chicago Board of Elections confirmed that no other petitions were submitted.

Deep Roots and Consistent Support

Napolitano, a lifelong resident of the 41st Ward, first won election in 2015 after a close runoff against former Alderman Mary O’Connor. He was re‑elected in 2019 with 70 % of the vote over Tim Heneghan and again in 2023 with a commanding 74 % over attorney Paul Struebing. His unopposed status this cycle underscores the confidence voters have in his record.

Public‑Safety Champion

Throughout his tenure, the alderman has been a vocal advocate for police officers, firefighters and other first responders. He has repeatedly pushed for additional resources, including the restoration of ShotSpotter technology that the City Council eliminated in 2024. Napolitano’s background as a former police officer and firefighter informs his commitment to keeping neighborhoods safe.

Neighborhood Improvements

Napolitano has championed safety infrastructure upgrades at hazardous intersections throughout the ward, addressing concerns of residents who travel daily on busy streets. He also led efforts to give aldermen greater authority to regulate short‑term vacation rentals, helping to curb problematic Airbnb operations that have affected housing availability for local families.

Preserving Heritage and Community Values

In line with his support for traditional community symbols, Napolitano has advocated for the re‑installation of Christopher Columbus statues removed during the former mayor’s administration. He also introduced participatory budgeting to the ward in 2015, resulting in projects such as a neighborhood sign in Norwood Park and a fitness trail in Oriole Park.

Commitment to Domestic‑Violence Survivors

Earlier this month, Napolitano missed a domestic‑violence hearing due to a pressing street‑issue in Edison Park, but he emphasized his “five‑thousand‑percent” support for survivors. Drawing on his experience as a police officer and firefighter, he described witnessing “horrific” acts of domestic violence and warned against anyone who claims indifference to the issue.

Looking Ahead

Municipal elections are scheduled for February 23, 2027. With no opponent on the ballot, Napolitano’s campaign will focus on reinforcing his record of public‑safety advocacy, neighborhood development and steadfast support for families and first‑responders. Residents can expect continued attention to infrastructure safety, responsible short‑term rental regulation and the preservation of community heritage.
