Denver Named Finalist to Host a Men’s NCAA Final Four Between 2032‑2036

The NCAA announced Tuesday that Denver is one of seven finalist cities under consideration to host a Men’s Final Four sometime between the 2032 and 2036 seasons. The selection puts Denver alongside Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Kansas, Las Vegas, Nashville, Tennessee, and New Orleans.

Why Denver Made the Cut

Denver last hosted a Men’s Final Four in 1990, when the tournament was still played in traditional indoor arenas. Today’s Final Four is staged in NFL‑sized stadiums, and the NCAA’s committee believes the city’s planned new Broncos stadium will meet those requirements. The stadium, currently in negotiations with the team, the city, and nearby property owners at Burnham Yard, is slated to open for the 2031 NFL season, positioning it perfectly for a potential 2032 Final Four.

Selection Process

The Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Committees, together with NCAA staff, will travel to each finalist city over the next year. They will meet with local leaders, tour proposed venues, and evaluate hotel capacity, transportation infrastructure, and overall community support. The committees expect to wrap up the selection process by July 2027, shortly after the summer meeting with city representatives.

Other Cities in the Running

Four of the seven finalists will ultimately be chosen, each receiving one Final Four during the five‑year cycle. Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Kansas, Las Vegas, Nashville, and New Orleans are all vying for the honor. New Orleans has hosted the event six times, while Nashville would be a first‑time host thanks to a new roofed stadium for its NFL franchise.

Denver’s Broader Event Ambitions

Beyond the NCAA bid, Denver has recently pursued other high‑profile events, including bids for the Democratic National Convention, the Gay Games, and the FIFA World Cup. While the World Cup and Gay Games bids were declined, the DNC bid remains under review. The city’s willingness to seek major national and international gatherings underscores its growing reputation as a premier event destination.

What This Means for Residents

Should Denver be selected, the Final Four would bring a significant influx of visitors, boosting local hotels, restaurants, and transportation services. The event would also showcase the new stadium and reinforce Denver’s status as a hub for major sporting and cultural occasions. Community leaders are already preparing contingency plans to manage traffic, security, and hospitality needs.

Looking Ahead

The NCAA’s decision will be announced after the committees complete their site visits and evaluations. In the meantime, Denver officials are urging residents and businesses to stay informed and ready to support what could become one of the most celebrated sporting events in the city’s recent history.
