Trump’s Interview with New York Post Sparks Fact-Checking

In a recent interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, President Donald Trump reiterated several claims about elections and immigration that have been widely scrutinized. The conversation, which was released on Wednesday, touched on topics including mail-in ballots, the 2020 election, and border security.

Election Claims

President Trump repeated his assertion that the 2020 election was “rigged,” a claim that has been consistently debunked. He stated that “it’s been proven to be rigged,” despite the lack of evidence supporting this assertion. Trump also claimed that he “won it three times,” referring to his election performances in 2016, 2020, and 2024. However, he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden, who won both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Regarding mail-in ballots, Trump claimed that the United States is the only country that uses them, a statement that contradicts the practices of many other nations, including Canada and the United Kingdom, which allow mail-in voting.

Immigration and Border Security

On immigration, Trump claimed that “25 million people” crossed the border during Biden’s presidency, a figure that significantly exceeds official estimates. He also suggested that migrants were released from jails and mental institutions to enter the U.S., a claim lacking substantiation.

Trump’s comments on border security included the assertion that the border is now “sealed” and that “nobody” is crossing. While U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported a decrease in migrant releases, the claim of zero crossings is an exaggeration.

Other Claims

Trump also took credit for the 2020 reelection of Senator Mitch McConnell, stating that his endorsement was pivotal. However, McConnell was consistently favored to win in Kentucky, a state that has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1992.

Additionally, Trump claimed that former Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he referred to as the “border czar,” never visited the southern border. In reality, Harris visited the border twice during her tenure.
