The Cincinnati Reds have decided to make a strategic roster adjustment by sending outfielder TJ Friedl to Triple-A Louisville following a challenging start to his 2026 season. Friedl’s performance at the plate has been underwhelming, with a batting average of just .179 over 47 games, accompanied by a .259 on-base percentage and a .256 slugging percentage. His current Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is rated at -0.6, which could mark the lowest of his career if it remains unchanged by the end of the season.
In contrast, Friedl’s previous season saw him achieve a more respectable .261 batting average, with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs, contributing to a 2.4 WAR. The Reds are hopeful that a stint in Triple-A will help Friedl regain his form.
Noelvi Marte’s Return
In a corresponding move, the Reds have recalled Noelvi Marte from Triple-A Louisville. Marte, who was initially sent down earlier this season due to a slow start, has shown significant improvement in the minors. Over 40 games with the Louisville Bats, Marte posted an impressive .369 batting average, along with eight home runs and 27 RBIs. His improved performance in the minors has earned him another opportunity to contribute to the Reds at the major league level.
Marte’s initial stint with the Reds this season was less successful, as he struggled with a .138 batting average over 11 games. However, his recent form in Triple-A suggests he may be ready to make a positive impact.
The Reds are set to conclude their three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday evening, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Following a day off on Thursday, the team will embark on a six-game road trip, starting with a series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
