Comedian Eugene Mirman Recovering After Fiery Crash in New Hampshire

Beloved comedian and actor Eugene Mirman, recognized for his voice role as Gene Belcher on ‘Bob’s Burgers,’ is on the mend following a severe crash into a toll plaza in Bedford, New Hampshire. The incident occurred on March 31, when Mirman’s electric Lucid Gravity SUV collided with the toll booth at high speed, resulting in a fire.

Mirman’s Recovery and Reflections

In an interview with NBC10 Boston, Mirman shared that he has no recollection of the crash itself. ‘I don’t know what caused it. I don’t remember it,’ he stated, expressing relief at not having to relive the traumatic moment. Mirman expressed gratitude towards New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte and her security detail, which included a state police trooper who helped rescue him from the burning vehicle.

Despite the ordeal, Mirman has continued his work, recently releasing a comedy special titled ‘Here Comes the Whimsy,’ filmed in Somerville, Massachusetts. He has also resumed recording episodes for ‘Bob’s Burgers.’ Reflecting on the experience, Mirman noted, ‘My first wife died from cancer, so I had already really appreciated life. So now I guess I just super-duper appreciate it, extra.’

Challenges of Electric Vehicle Fires

The crash and subsequent fire at a local tow yard a week later have brought attention to the unique challenges posed by electric vehicle fires. Natick Fire Department Chief Jason Ferschke explained that while electric vehicles are generally stable, their battery fires can be unpredictable and difficult to extinguish. ‘Overall, electric vehicles are pretty stable and pretty reliable, but when they go bad, they go bad,’ Ferschke remarked, highlighting the need for specialized training and resources to manage such incidents.

Firefighters face hurdles in ensuring adequate water supply and adapting to the complexities of electric vehicle fires. ‘Just like anything else, we try to have as many tools in the toolbox as we can,’ Ferschke added, emphasizing the fire service’s ability to adapt to challenging situations.
