Wyoming residents who love the outdoors now have a chance to showcase their photography skills. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s publication, Wyoming Wildlife magazine, is accepting entries for its annual photo contest. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on November 23.
Four Categories Highlight Wyoming’s Natural Heritage
Contestants may enter up to ten photographs across four distinct categories:
- Wildlife: Images of wild mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and arthropods, with priority given to species managed by the department.
- Scenic: Photographs of landmarks, landscapes or inanimate objects that capture the state’s natural beauty.
- Recreation: Pictures of people enjoying hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking and other outdoor pursuits that support the department’s mission of “conserving wildlife, serving people.”
- Flora: Shots of wildflowers, foliage, fruiting bodies or other plant parts.
All images must be taken within Wyoming and must not have been previously printed or used on assignment for Wyoming Wildlife. The contest welcomes participants ranging from seasoned professionals to hobbyists using a cell phone.
Cash Prizes and Publication Opportunities
The winning photographs in each category will be printed in the February 2027 issue of the magazine. The overall best photo will receive a $600 prize donated by this year’s sponsor, The Wyldlife Fund. First, second and third place winners in each category will earn $300, $200 and $100 respectively.
Statement from the Magazine Editor
“This photo contest celebrates the remarkable photography being created across our state,” said Tracie Binkerd, editor of Wyoming Wildlife. “With multiple categories, there’s an opportunity for everyone to share their unique perspective. Whether you’re a professional photographer with years of experience or an explorer using a cell phone to capture a beautiful moment, we invite you to enter.”
How to Submit
Interested photographers can review the full contest rules and upload their entries through the department’s website. Detailed guidelines cover file formats, image resolution, and the submission process.
By encouraging participation from all skill levels, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department hopes to foster a deeper appreciation for the state’s wildlife, landscapes and outdoor traditions. The contest not only highlights the talent of local photographers but also reinforces the department’s commitment to conservation and public engagement.
