Detroit police responded to a report of gunfire at the King Cole Foods grocery store near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Clairmount Street at 2:32 p.m. on Friday. Officers arrived within minutes after being dispatched five minutes earlier.
When officers reached the storefront, they found bullet casings scattered around the entrance and a male victim lying in the vestibule with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A second individual was also reported injured. That person was taken to a different hospital and, according to officials, remains in stable condition.
At this time, police have not released any information about a suspect and are continuing to investigate the incident. Detectives are canvassing the surrounding area, gathering witness statements, and reviewing any available surveillance footage to identify those responsible.
The shooting adds to the ongoing concerns about public safety in Detroit neighborhoods. City officials have repeatedly urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity promptly.
Police spokespersons emphasized that the investigation is active and that anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department’s tip line. Community members are encouraged to cooperate fully with law‑enforcement efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
King Cole Foods, a local grocery retailer, has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. The store remains closed while investigators process the scene.
Detroit authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as more details become available.
