The opening day of the Iowa state boys soccer tournament was marked by intense competition and exciting moments as teams from across the state gathered in West Des Moines, Des Moines, Gilbert, and Indianola. Highlights from the Matches

In the 4A class, Southeast Polk made their state tournament debut against Roosevelt. Despite a strong effort, Roosevelt secured a spot in the semifinals with a hat trick, marking their first semifinal appearance since 2003. Ankeny Centennial, the top seed, had a commanding win over Iowa City, while Waukee Northwest edged out Johnston in a thrilling penalty shootout.

In the 3A class, Urbandale faced Iowa City West, emerging victorious with a 3-1 win. Norwalk dominated Marion with a 5-0 victory, and DCG rolled past Denison-Schleswig with another 5-0 win. Des Moines Hoover also advanced, defeating Davenport North 3-1.

In the 2A class, Des Moines Christian advanced over Wahlert, and Unity Christian eliminated Knoxville with a 3-0 win. Gilbert hosted a nail-biting match that went to penalty kicks, where they ultimately triumphed.

Looking Ahead

The semifinals are set to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, with the championship matches scheduled for Friday. As the tournament progresses, the excitement continues to build, with teams eager to claim the state title.
