After more than five years of serving the Towson community, The Gourmet at Kenilworth will close permanently. The owners posted on social media that the restaurant’s final day of operation will be Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Shops at Kenilworth on Kenilworth Drive.
Owners reflect on the restaurant’s history
“Serving the Towson community has been one of the greatest privileges we have the pleasure of having,” the owners wrote. “For the last 5+ years, since our first day, 08/03/2021, we’ve had some of the best guests & staff members possible…We can look back with a smile and no regrets.”
The Gourmet at Kenilworth built a reputation for fresh seafood, crisp salads, sliders, and handcrafted cocktails served in a casual, Nantucket‑like setting. Patrons often praised the relaxed atmosphere and the quality of the menu, which combined classic New England flavors with a modern twist.
Sister location will remain open
While the Towson venue is closing, the owners confirmed that their sister restaurant, Catonsville Gourmet at 829 Frederick Road, will continue to operate. They encouraged former guests to visit the Catonsville location for the same level of service and culinary standards.
“Let’s treat this next month as a celebration,” the owners added. “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened!” The invitation reflects a desire to honor the memories created at the Towson spot rather than dwell on the closure.
Impact on local dining scene
The Gourmet’s departure leaves a noticeable gap in Towson’s dining landscape. The restaurant attracted both longtime residents and visitors to the Shops at Kenilworth, contributing to the area’s reputation as a destination for quality casual dining. Local business owners expressed appreciation for the years of partnership, noting that The Gourmet helped draw foot traffic to nearby shops.
“We’ve always enjoyed having The Gourmet as a neighbor,” said a nearby boutique owner who asked to remain anonymous. “Their presence added variety to the shopping center and gave shoppers a great place to unwind after a day of retail.”
What’s next for the space?
The owners have not announced any immediate plans for the vacant space. The Shops at Kenilworth management indicated that they will begin exploring new tenant options in the coming weeks, aiming to maintain a vibrant mix of dining and retail offerings for the community.
Community members who wish to share memories or thank the staff are encouraged to leave comments on the restaurant’s social‑media pages before the final day. The owners have promised to respond personally to many of the messages, underscoring the personal connection they have cultivated with their guests over the years.
Looking ahead
Although The Gourmet at Kenilworth is closing, its legacy of fresh seafood and friendly service will live on through the Catonsville location and the many patrons who continue to cherish their experiences. The owners’ invitation to celebrate the restaurant’s history reflects a hopeful outlook for future culinary ventures in the region.
