Oak Cliff Residents Seek Answers After Deadly Explosion Disrupts Daily Life

Residents of Oak Cliff are still facing significant disruptions in their daily lives following a deadly explosion at the former Clyde Apartments. The incident has left many without essential services, and the community is seeking answers as the investigation progresses.

Community Impact and Ongoing Concerns

Wen Becerra, a resident living near the explosion site, described the challenges faced by many in the area. “We can’t cook, we can’t do anything,” Becerra said, highlighting the lack of gas service, hot water, and air conditioning. The explosion also shattered multiple windows in his apartment, which remain boarded up.

As Atmos crews continue their work in the area, residents are left with questions about safety and the timeline for restoring utilities. Becerra expressed frustration with the management’s demand for rent payments despite the unacceptable living conditions. “They want us to pay the rent, but obviously I don’t want to pay anything because that’s unacceptable for them,” he stated.

Investigation and Future Steps

The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, with crews conducting inspections and digging at the site. For many residents, the focus is not only on understanding what caused the explosion but also on determining when life can return to normal. Another resident expressed concerns about safety, saying, “We don’t feel like it’s safe to stay here, so we’re trying to see if we can go somewhere else.”

NBC DFW has reached out to the attorney representing the owner of the neighboring apartments for comment, but a response is still pending. As the community waits for answers, the need for clear communication and timely restoration of services remains a priority for those affected.
