College Station Road Closures Announced for June 1-3

Residents and commuters in College Station should prepare for road closures scheduled from June 1 to June 3 as part of the ongoing ‘Big 6’ construction project. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has outlined specific closures and detours to facilitate the construction work.

Closure Details

On June 1, single-lane closures will occur between Southwest Parkway and Harvey Road from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The northbound right mainlane will be closed as crews set up a traffic barrier, affecting the northbound entrance ramp south of Southwest Parkway and the northbound Harvey Road exit ramp.

June 2 will see a full closure between Rock Prairie Road and Southwest Parkway from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. During this time, all traffic will need to exit at Rock Prairie Road and re-enter using the Southwest Parkway mainlanes. Additionally, the northbound entrance ramps south of Barron Road and south of Harvey Mitchell Parkway will be closed starting at 7:30 a.m.

On June 3, the northbound Texas Avenue exit ramp will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. for road paving. TxDOT recommends rerouting to Texas Avenue with a left turn on Southwest Parkway.

Future Construction Plans

TxDOT has also provided an overview of the construction plans for the next six months, focusing on maintaining two mainlanes in each direction. The majority of the work will involve mainlanes and the construction of temporary pavement and retaining walls. An overview video is available for those interested in the detailed plans for the upcoming years of construction.
