Boise Gas Prices Drop Nearly 10 Cents, Offering Relief to Drivers

Residents of Boise, Idaho, are experiencing some relief at the gas pump as average gasoline prices have dropped nearly 10 cents over the past week. According to a survey conducted by GasBuddy, the average price per gallon in Boise is now $4.55, down from last week’s prices but still higher than a month ago by 15.5 cents. Compared to last year, Boise’s current average is $1.43 higher per gallon.

This local decrease is part of a broader national trend, with the average price across the United States falling to $4.26 per gallon, nearly 20 cents less than the previous week. Diesel prices have also seen a reduction, dropping by 15.5 cents to an average of $5.437 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that gasoline prices have declined in all 50 states over the past week. In 15 states, the average price has fallen below $4 per gallon, providing widespread relief to motorists.

Local and Regional Price Variations

Within Boise, there’s a notable 50-cent difference between the most and least expensive gas stations, with prices ranging from $4.29 to $4.79 per gallon. The $4.29 price is the lowest in Idaho, while the state’s most expensive station is priced at $4.99 per gallon.

Regionally, Idaho’s average gas price is $4.58, a decrease of 6.5 cents from last week. Nearby states like Oregon and Utah have also seen price drops, with Oregon’s average at $5.19 and Utah’s at $4.47.

Factors Influencing Price Changes

De Haan attributed much of the recent decline in prices to falling oil prices and the unwinding of recent price cycles. Optimism surrounding a potential U.S.-Iran agreement has eased concerns over global oil supplies, contributing to the price drop. However, De Haan cautioned that the situation remains uncertain, with geopolitical risks and potential setbacks in negotiations that could reverse the trend.

For Boise residents, the current decrease in gas prices provides some short-term financial relief, though the future remains uncertain as global and national factors continue to influence fuel costs.
