FCA All-Star Games Highlight Local High School Talent

The 15th Annual FCA All Star Football Classic was held in San Luis Obispo, California, bringing together talented high school athletes from the region. This year’s event was especially notable for the introduction of the inaugural All Star Girl’s Flag Football Showcase, highlighting the growing interest and participation of young women in the sport.

North vs. South: A Competitive Matchup

The North team, comprising athletes from Pioneer Valley, Santa Maria, Paso Robles, and San Luis Obispo high schools, faced off against the South team, which included players from Lompoc and Cabrillo high schools. Unfortunately, athletes from Santa Ynez were unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts following their graduation.

In the girls’ flag football game, the North team initially took a lead with a touchdown by Santa Maria’s Luna Nunez. However, the South team responded with a strong performance, ultimately winning 19 to 6, thanks to key plays by Lompoc’s Tara Terrones and Cabrillo’s Leilah Carter.

Main Event: Boys’ All Star Classic

The main event featured the 15th Annual All Star Classic between teams from San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara County. The North team, seeking their first victory since 2024, took an early lead with a touchdown pass from Nipomo’s Griffin Grosshart to San Luis Obispo’s Colbin Garrison. Paso Robles’ Kassim Williams added another touchdown, giving the North a 14 to 0 lead at halftime.

The South team, however, mounted a comeback in the second half. Righetti’s Nicholas Matautia connected with Lompoc’s Kasch Kubasiewicz for a touchdown, and a trick play involving a pass from Williams to Righetti’s Caden Vicker tied the game at 14. Despite a missed field goal, the North team secured a 17 to 14 victory with a late field goal and a crucial defensive stand.

The MVP award was given to San Luis Obispo’s Colbin Garrison for his outstanding performance. Over its 15-year history, the event has raised over $2.1 million to support local high school athletic programs, demonstrating the community’s commitment to nurturing young athletes.
