Lake Worth police responded to a welfare check at 11:33 a.m. on Saturday in the 4200 block of Canyon Trail. Officers encountered 40‑year‑old Anthony Danenza standing in the front yard; he retreated into his house and retrieved a handgun.
According to the department, Danenza fired the weapon from inside the residence and then fortified the entryways, prompting officers to establish a safety perimeter. A SWAT team and additional Fort Worth officers arrived, using loudspeakers to repeatedly order the suspect to surrender.
At one point, a woman’s voice could be heard over the speaker pleading, “Come home.” Neighbors were instructed to remain indoors while negotiators worked to de‑escalate the situation.
Community reaction
Local resident Serena Ponder described the scene as increasingly unsettling, saying, “It actually made us more and more concerned every minute. So many guns, police officers and very scary.” She added, “We have children, so we were wondering what was going on.”
Several loud bangs were reported during the operation, and a final discharge produced a cloud of smoke shortly before officers secured the suspect around 3 p.m.
Aftermath
When the scene was cleared, a pickup truck parked in the driveway was towed, its side and back windows riddled with bullet holes. Neighbors expressed relief that the incident concluded without further injury. “We’ve never even seen anything like this,” Ponder said, noting the episode reminded residents that “you never know what people are going through.” Her husband echoed the sentiment, adding, “People are going through so much. This is somebody’s life. We’re hoping everyone is okay.”
Lake Worth police confirmed that Danenza was taken into custody and faces multiple felony charges, including nine counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and four counts of deadly conduct.
