Rapid City has something extra to be proud of this week: its drinking water has been named the best-tasting in South Dakota, and the city is now heading to a national competition to see how it stacks up against the rest of the country.
The recognition is a testament to the hard work of the city’s water treatment and utility teams, who work year-round to deliver clean, high-quality water to residents across the community. Being singled out as the top-tasting water in the entire state is no small feat, and locals are celebrating the honor with well-deserved pride.
The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids program is also bringing warmth — literally — to hundreds of Black Hills families this week. The Rapid City Salvation Army held its Coats for Kids event on Thursday and Friday, distributing coats to children and families in need as the colder months approach. The semi-annual effort is one of the most beloved community outreach programs in the region, ensuring that kids across the area are bundled up and ready for a South Dakota winter.
Together, these stories reflect what makes Rapid City such a strong community: dedicated public servants delivering excellence in everyday services, and compassionate neighbors stepping up to make sure no child faces the cold without a coat. Whether it’s award-winning water flowing from the tap or a warm jacket on a child’s shoulders, Rapid City continues to show up for its residents in meaningful ways.
Congratulations to the city’s water utility team on their statewide recognition — and best of luck at the national competition. And a heartfelt thank you to the Salvation Army volunteers and donors who made Coats for Kids possible for hundreds of Black Hills families this season.
