White House Hosts AI CEOs for Lunch with President Trump and Speaker Johnson

President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to host a lunch at the White House on Tuesday with leaders of the nation’s biggest artificial intelligence companies. The gathering comes amid growing concerns from the tech sector about the rapid pace of AI development.

Who will attend

According to sources familiar with the plan, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be present, as will Dario Amodei, chief executive of Anthropic. Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google, confirmed his attendance through a company spokesperson. Nvidia founder Jensen Huang and Palantir’s Alex Karl are also expected to join the discussion.

President’s stance on AI regulation

President Trump has repeatedly said that the United States “rejects” any global attempt to regulate artificial intelligence. In a recent social‑media post, he called warnings about AI a “hoax,” likening them to the political attacks he faced during his impeachments. While addressing the United Nations General Assembly last week, he reiterated that the U.S. will not bow to international pressure to curb AI development.

Speaker Johnson’s view

Speaker Johnson told reporters two weeks ago that the meeting will focus on the “responsibility of the companies to maintain safety, and what role, if any, the government has to play.” He urged the tech firms to self‑regulate but warned against a moratorium, saying a pause would let China gain a competitive edge with serious national‑security implications. Johnson also suggested that the alarm over AI is a politically motivated Chinese psychological operation, calling it “what Democrats do” and urging the public not to buy into the fear.

Industry perspective

While many AI leaders have warned that unchecked development could outpace human control, Zuckerberg pushed back, stating that “every lab has the responsibility and incentive to move at the pace required to train its models safely.” The meeting will therefore serve as a forum for both sides to lay out their positions on safety, competition and the role of government.

What’s at stake

The discussion comes at a time when lawmakers are weighing whether any legislative action is needed to address AI risks. Proponents of regulation argue that safeguards are essential to prevent unintended consequences, while the Trump administration maintains that market‑driven innovation, coupled with voluntary industry standards, best protects American leadership and security.

The White House has not responded to requests for comment about the upcoming lunch.
