The Chicks Celebrate ‘Taking the Long Way’ 20th Anniversary with U.S. Tour

The Chicks, the renowned Texas trio of Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire, and Natalie Maines, are set to embark on an intimate U.S. tour this fall to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album ‘Taking the Long Way.’ The tour will feature performances of the album in its entirety, along with other fan favorites, and includes three Texas dates: two nights in San Antonio and one night in Austin.

A Look Back at ‘Taking the Long Way’

Released in 2006, ‘Taking the Long Way’ marked a pivotal moment in The Chicks’ career. The album came after a tumultuous period when the country music industry largely turned its back on the group following Natalie Maines’ controversial comments about then-President George W. Bush during a 2003 concert in London. The backlash was severe, with radio stations pulling their music and fans destroying their CDs. Despite the challenges, the album went on to win five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Reflecting on the album’s creation, Maines noted that it was a time of personal and professional upheaval, which fueled their songwriting. ‘Not Ready to Make Nice,’ one of the standout tracks, became an anthem of resilience and defiance, resonating with listeners who had their own stories of overcoming adversity.

Tour Details

The tour kicks off at the Fox Theatre in Detroit on September 30 and concludes with two nights at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on November 1 and 2. In addition to their Texas dates, The Chicks will perform in major cities such as Chicago, New York, Seattle, and San Francisco. Tickets for the tour will be available starting June 4 on LiveNation.com.

For fans in Texas, the opportunity to see The Chicks perform live in San Antonio on October 17 and 18 at the Majestic Theatre, and in Austin on October 20 at the Bass Concert Hall, is a chance to relive the music that defined a significant era for the band.
