Background on the trial
The case centers on Clancy’s admission that she killed her three children – 5‑year‑old Cora, 3‑year‑old Dawson, and 8‑month‑old Callan – at their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023. Her defense argued that postpartum psychosis rendered her not criminally responsible, while prosecutors maintained she acted with full awareness and intent.
After seven days of deliberations, eleven jurors were prepared to find Clancy not criminally responsible, but Desronvil held out for a conviction. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4.
Attorney’s response
Paltzik emphasized that Desronvil’s position was grounded in the physical evidence and witness testimony presented at trial, which he believes demonstrated Clancy’s knowledge of her actions. He rejected claims that the juror was refusing to follow the law, stating that the juror’s decision was based on a thorough review of the record.
Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek a retrial. Clancy is scheduled to appear in court again on September 29.
