Eagles fans hire attorney to challenge new oversized-vehicle parking rules

Philadelphia – A coalition of Eagles supporters announced Friday that they have engaged Philadelphia attorney George Bochetto to represent their interests as the city prepares to enforce new parking directives for oversized vehicles at the Sports Complex.

Fans cite tradition and family togetherness

Organizer Carmen Conti told Action News the group’s primary goal is to “protect Philadelphia’s tailgating tradition and give fans a voice in decisions about parking at the Sports Complex.” Conti added that Bochetto will join supporters on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to outline next steps.

“My kids cannot drive their car next to their dad’s truck, and it’s going to ruin the tailgating community,” Conti said, echoing the frustration of many fans who view the proposed changes as an attack on a long‑standing family‑friendly ritual.

City’s new policy details

Effective Oct. 4, the Sports Complex Parking Venture will direct oversized vehicles to designated areas outside Lincoln Financial Field. Vehicles will be assigned to Lot D and the upper section of Lot N, while standard passenger cars will no longer be permitted to park alongside them in those zones.

Fans who hold oversized‑vehicle passes for Lots E or H will still be allowed to park there, but they will receive specific space assignments rather than the ability to choose or reserve spots. The policy also raises the cost for oversized vehicles to $200 for four parking spaces, with an optional two‑space add‑on for $100, allowing a maximum of six spaces.

City says changes improve traffic flow

The Sports Complex Parking Venture explained that the adjustments are intended to improve traffic flow, keep roadways clear and preserve parking availability for all guests. Officials said the policy was developed after community feedback and discussions with city stakeholders.

While the city emphasizes safety and efficiency, the fan group argues that separating trucks from cars undermines the communal atmosphere that has defined Eagles tailgating for decades.

Legal action on the horizon

With attorney Bochetto on board, the group plans to explore legal avenues to contest the policy, arguing that it may violate existing agreements or unfairly target a specific class of fans.

Action News reached out to Bochetto for comment but had not received a response as of Friday night.

What’s at stake for fans

Tailgating is more than a pre‑game pastime for many Philadelphians; it is a family gathering that reinforces community bonds and local pride. By potentially forcing trucks and cars into separate lots, the city’s plan could disrupt the intergenerational experience that fans cherish.

Supporters hope that the legal challenge will prompt a reconsideration of the policy, preserving the ability for families to park side‑by‑side and maintain the vibrant tailgating culture that has long been a hallmark of Eagles games.
