North Austin welcomes a new dining destination that celebrates the flavors of Mexico. Grill‑eria, opened in 2023 by co‑owners Yaneth Herrera and Gustavo Gameros, offers a menu built around authentic Mexican recipes rather than the Tex‑Mex staples many expect in the area.
From Accounting to the Kitchen
Herrera, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, moved to Texas nearly two decades ago. Though her professional background is in accounting, she missed the home‑cooked meals of her childhood. With encouragement from her husband, she partnered with Gustavo Gameros—owner of Folklore Artisanal Mexican Eatery, which operates in New Jersey and New York—to bring a true taste of Mexico to North Austin.
Menu Highlights
The menu features tacos, burritos, soups and crispy tostadas, all prepared with house‑made tortillas and quality meats such as pork, chicken and rib‑eye beef. The rib‑eye taco, a top seller, comes with four tacos topped with roasted bone marrow, grilled onions and guacamole. Traditional soups like pozole and menudo, as well as chilaquiles with refried beans, salsa, cheese and a choice of protein, showcase the restaurant’s commitment to authentic flavors.
For beverages, Grill‑eria offers four agua fresca options—limeade with cucumber and pineapple, hibiscus, horchata and tamarind—providing refreshing, non‑alcoholic choices that complement the spicy dishes.
Community Response
Both Herrera and Gameros note an enthusiastic response from diners. “They cheer every time we serve a dish,” Gameros said, adding that some guests even clap in appreciation. The restaurant aims to serve not only those with Mexican heritage but anyone seeking a genuine Mexican culinary experience.
Future Plans
Grill‑eria plans to expand its outdoor seating with tables and umbrellas, creating a comfortable al fresco dining area. The owners are also exploring additional menu items they describe as “exclusive backyard bites.” Looking ahead, Herrera and Gameros are evaluating potential new locations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and other parts of Austin, believing the brand has strong growth potential.
With a focus on family‑style hospitality—”I love cooking because it’s how I show love to my family and to my clients,” Herrera explained—the restaurant seeks to become a gathering place where food connects people to cherished memories and new experiences alike.
