Vikings Place RB Jordan Mason on IR, Add DeeJay Dallas and Jerome Ford

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Wednesday that running back Jordan Mason has been placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured thumb. Mason, who contributed 59 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 victory over the Green Bay Packers, will miss at least the next several weeks as he recovers.

Roster moves to keep the ground game strong

In a corresponding move, the Vikings signed running back DeeJay Dallas to the 53‑man roster. Dallas, a former practice‑squad player with experience in the league, provides immediate depth at the position while Mason heals. To make room for Dallas, the team added veteran running back Jerome Ford to the practice squad, ensuring that the organization retains a seasoned backup who can step up if needed.

These transactions reflect the coaching staff’s proactive planning. Head coach Kevin O’Connell emphasized that the team is prepared for the short‑term loss of Mason and confident that the new additions will help maintain a balanced rushing attack.

Impact on the Vikings’ rushing attack

Mason’s injury will likely increase the workload for Aaron Jones Sr., who posted 40 yards and a touchdown in the opening win. With Dallas and Ford now in the mix, the Vikings have multiple options to keep the offensive line moving and protect the lead in upcoming games.

Jones, a proven veteran, has shown the ability to handle a heavier share of carries without sacrificing efficiency. The coaching staff expects him to shoulder more responsibility while the younger backs develop their roles.

Quarterback situation remains under observation

In addition to the running‑back news, the Vikings are monitoring quarterback Kyler Murray’s recovery after he suffered a concussion early in the season‑opening game. Murray will participate in a limited capacity during practice on Wednesday as he follows the NFL’s concussion protocol. The team remains optimistic that he will be ready for full practice soon.

Looking ahead to Week 2

The Vikings travel to Chicago for a Week 2 showdown against the Bears at Soldier Field, with a noon kickoff on FOX. The roster adjustments give the coaching staff confidence that the team can stay competitive despite the early injuries.

Fans in Minnesota can expect a hard‑working, resilient Vikings squad that continues to prioritize depth and preparation. The swift roster moves underscore the organization’s commitment to fielding a strong, family‑oriented team that represents the values of the state’s football community.
